This one crops down to just Claude Chan's hands. The white cuffs bunch into folds, a black chain hangs from her wrist, and orange hair scatters across the background. The left hand opens with a loose, lifted fingertip as if waiting for someone to place a hand in it; the right stays tucked against the cuff, perfectly still. It is only a small fragment of the picture, and somehow harder to look at for long than a full-length portrait.
